Lukebakio and Isco in focus: Betis and Sevilla FC draw 1-1

Betis and Sevilla FC drew 1-1 in the city derby on Sunday evening. Lukebakio and Isco were in the spotlight shortly before the break – later it was a crossbar goal that denied the hosts victory

In the end, Betis could have bagged the three points after all. A cross from Rodri, a header from Ezzalzouli – crossbar. The hosts sniffed a winner three minutes before the end of normal time, but shortly afterwards, when referee José Maria Sanchez Martinez brought the Seville derby to an end, it was clear that it had only been enough for a draw.

Betis initially needed some time to get going and were fortunate that Lukebakio, who came on as an early substitute, failed to convert a great chance midway through the first half (24′). However, the Whites then improved considerably, created a top-class opportunity themselves in the person of Fornals (35′) and finally took the lead

After Lukebakio touched the ball with his arm, Betis were awarded a penalty, Isco stepped up and beat former Bundesliga goalkeeper Nyland – 1:0 for Betis (38′), a lead that was still intact at half-time.

Kike Salas equalizes

After the break, it was a set piece that brought Sevilla FC back into the game: Acuna served in a corner and Kike Salas, who had just come on as a substitute, headed home the equalizer (56′).

Shortly afterwards, there was an upset at the other end: Badé dribbled out of his own penalty area with the ball at his feet and touched Isco lightly on the neck; the referee again pointed to the spot, but the VAR pointed out that Badé’s challenge was not a penalty (58′).

The score remained 1-1 – and it was still on the scoreboard after more than 90 minutes, as Ezzalzouli’s header hit the crossbar shortly before the end.
