Alexis Sanchez saves a point for Inter at Torino

Chilean Alexis Sanchez equalises for Inter deep in stoppage time to secure at least a point. However, this is not enough for Milan in the championship race, and the competition is happy.

The Turin team started furiously at home against champions Inter and put the visitors under pressure from the start – and it had an effect. Milan struggled to break free from their own half in the early stages as they lacked the necessary passing accuracy. Numerous mistakes in the build-up allowed the home side to counterattack quickly. However, it was not a counter-attack that created the first big chance, but a corner kick: Bremer was right in the thick of things after a Mandragora corner kick and dusted off the ball for 1:0 (12th).

Torino almost scored twice, but Handanovic saved Belotti’s shot (13th). These scenes were a wake-up call for Inter.

The Nerazzuri then got into the game better and had the chance to equalise after two Calhanoglu free kicks. But both a header by Lautaro Martinez and the direct attempt by the former Bundesliga professional himself were saved by Berisha (15th, 30th). As Marco Guida’s whistle failed to blow after a controversial scene in the Milan penalty area between Ranocchia and Belotti (37th), the game went into the break with a deserved 1:0.

Milan not rewarded

In the dressing room Simone Inzaghi seemed to have found the right words. Inter came out of the half-time break as if transformed and pressed the hosts into their own half. However, the team from the fashionable city was not rewarded for the effort: first Dimarco failed (52.), then Dzeko headed free-standing next to the goal (59.).

After a quarter of an hour, Torino freed themselves from the pressure and failed to extend their lead twice within a minute. Brekalo’s shot was just cleared by winter newcomer Gosens (63rd) – and Handanovic reacted brilliantly to Izzo’s header (64th). After that, the game flattened out. The visitors continued to attack, but without any danger.

Sanchez punishes Pobega’s lack of coolness

It was only in the closing stages that FC Internazionale became dangerous with balls to target player Dzeko.

But after the attacker again failed to head the ball into the net from five metres (89th), he was lucky that Pobega did not decide the game on the other side (90.+1). Dzeko made up for his two missed headers in the closing stages with a clever pass to Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean did not miss the chance and scored to make it 1-1 (90.+1).

In the end, however, the point was too little for the reigning champions: Inter had to let Napoli pass them in the table and, with one more game to go, they are now four points behind league leader and city rivals Milan.
