Ex-Williams driver Logan Sargeant says he doesn’t miss Formula 1 – the 25-year-old doesn’t have the best memories of the premier class
Logan Sargeant drove in Formula 1 for around a year and a half, before Williams kicked him out during the current 2024 season. that, looking back, his sacking was more of a redemption for him.
When asked whether he missed Formula 1, the US American replied: “No, I’m pretty numb to Formula 1. That’s probably the right word.” Sargeant joined the premier class in 2023 as a team-mate of Alexander Albon via the Williams junior program.
Sargeant clearly lost the team-internal duel in his rookie season by 1:27 points, and after he again failed to score a single point in the first 15 races of the 2024 season, Williams replaced him with Franco Colapinto, who also came from their own junior team.
“To be honest, I don’t care at all,” says Sargeant from today’s perspective about the abrupt end to his Formula 1 career and reveals: “In the end, I just didn’t feel like being there anymore after seeing how some teams work.”
In 2026, Sargeant will compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and explains that he is now “happy” about his switch to a different category. His statements sound a bit like a reckoning with Formula 1.
Among other things, he explains that there is “a more pleasant atmosphere in the WEC, a more relaxed atmosphere in which everyone works together towards the same goal”. Or to put it another way: conversely, he did not find his time in Formula 1 very pleasant.
The WEC is “a fantastic championship with fantastic manufacturers”, praises Sargeant, who only narrowly lost the title fight to Oscar Piastri in Formula 3 in 2020. While the Australian has now established himself as a top driver in the premier class, Sargeant never made the breakthrough.
However, he himself is now done with Formula 1 anyway. The 25-year-old would like to gain a foothold in the WEC instead and answers the question of whether he will also be competing in the World Endurance Championship in the coming years: “I hope so!”
This year, Sargeant is racing in the LMGT3 class, and in 2027 he will be a works driver for the new Ford hypercar.
