Bonn defeats Alba – Bayern wins top game in Chemnitz

The BBL Sunday saw Alba Berlin on the upswing as the capital city team defeated Bonn in a duel steeped in tradition. Chemnitz drew the short straw against Bayern in front of its home crowd

Title contenders Alba Berlin are slowly getting into their stride in the German Basketball League and made amends after their heavy defeat in the Euroleague against FC Bayern. The club from the capital won 95:87 (44:44) at runners-up Telekom Baskets Bonn on Sunday. Yanni Wetzell (22 points) and Sterling Brown (19) stood out for the visitors, who were particularly strong in the second half.

Alba had started 2024 with four defeats in all competitions. After the victories over Würzburg and now in Bonn, the team of Head Coach Israel González is back on track, at least in the German league.

Eighth Bayern win in a row

With ten wins and four defeats, Alba (10 wins – 4 defeats) are currently in fourth place behind league leaders Chemnitz, cup winners FC Bayern and champions ratiopharm Ulm (13-4). Alba had suffered a 65:82 defeat against Bayern in the Euroleague on Thursday.

Munich, on the other hand, moved closer to the top of the table in the evening with an 86:73 win at top club Chemnitz. It was the third defeat for the club from Saxony (14-3) and the visitors’ twelfth win of the season (12-3) and eighth in a row.

The duel remained open until the middle of the final quarter, only then did Bayern pull away decisively. Carsen Edwards was the best scorer for the Laso Five, who were without world champion Isaac Bonga, with 20 points, while Jeff Garrett was the top scorer for Chemnitz (18). Bonga is bothered by an ankle injury
