First 14:0, then 0:14: Alba’s race to catch up continues against Ulm

The only game of the Basketball Bundesliga on Good Friday took place at the Ostbahnhof in Berlin: Champions Alba beat Ulm in the chasing duel thanks to an increase in performance after the break.

Alba Berlin continued its race to catch up in the Basketball Bundesliga. The capital club won a make-up game against ratiopharm Ulm with 78:73 (43:42) in front of 7077 spectators on Good Friday. Alba thus climbs to third place, but has still played fewer games than the competition. Best scorers for the hosts were Maodo Lo with 15 and Malte Delow with 12 points.

Even start – Alba’s 14-0 run after the break

The game started very evenly, both teams found their throwing rhythm right away. In the middle of the first quarter, Alba was able to slowly pull away thanks to good defence. The Berliners made it more and more difficult for Ulm to find good throwing positions. At the beginning of the second period, Alba went on a 14:0 run and was able to pull away to 20 points for the first time after 14 minutes (40:20).

Ulmer time-out – Alba’s 0:14 run

Ulm took the time-out – and suddenly nothing worked for the hosts. The Berliners conceded a 0:14 run while they themselves only managed three points until the break.

Right after the change of ends, Ulm took the lead for the first time (45:43). But the German champions answered immediately and regained the lead in direct counter-attack. The game remained hard-fought, also because the guests never gave up. But Alba managed to keep the lead and celebrated their fourth league win in a row.
