Alba Berlin concedes clear home defeat against Real

Alba Berlin has clearly lost its first home game after the Corona break. On Thursday evening, the German basketball champions lost to the Spanish top club Real Madrid in the Euroleague with 74:89.

All Alba players have been back from the Corona quarantine since Wednesday. Johannes Thiemann and Jonas Mattisseck, however, were not yet back against Real. The Berliners needed a few minutes to find their way into the game. Led by Maodo Lo, they then found their rhythm better and the national player put the hosts in the lead for the first time midway through the first quarter (11:8).

Alba continued to struggle offensively in front of 1600 spectators, making too many mistakes and missing too many throws. They also lacked the necessary grip on the defensive end. They only conceded two fouls in the first half. Real punished these mistakes immediately and pulled away to 15 points (33:48).

After the change of ends, Alba came out of the dressing room with much more energy and fought their way back to within four points (46:50). The Spaniards remained unimpressed and played their advantages under the basket. Before the last quarter, the deficit was 17 points again (56:73) – and the game was practically decided.

For the Berliners, it was the twelfth defeat in the 18th game. The best Alba scorers were Lo with 21 points and Marcus Eriksson and Ben Lamers with ten points each.
