Veiga and Dudu shine: Palmeiras beat Al-Ahly to reach final

Palmeiras Sao Paolo have reached the final of the Club World Cup. The Brazilian Copa Libertadores winners beat Egyptian representatives Al-Ahly.

In the first semi-final of the Club World Cup, which took place at the Al-Nahyan Stadium (Abu Dhabi), Palmeiras won 2-0 – but had to wait until the 39th minute for the redemptive lead. It was Veiga who, after winning the ball, was set up by Dudu and held his nerve in front of the goal (39th). A few minutes after the break, the South Americans again made a fast-paced advance, this time Dudu finishing off Veiga’s assist from a half-legged position with a firm shot into the far corner (49th).

Al-Ahly, winners of the African CAF Champions League and last year’s semi-final opponents of Bayern Munich, seemed to be able to make the game exciting again in the final phase. However, Sherif’s goal was ruled offside after VAR intervention. A little later Ashraf was shown the red card for rough play (81.)

The replay of the match for third place in the previous season (3:2 n.E. for Al-Ahly) was this time in favour of the Brazilians, who will meet the winner of the match between Al-Hilal Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and Chelsea FC, who face each other on Wednesday, in the final next Saturday.
