Is Moritz Wagner leaving the Orlando Magic? According to media reports, that’s a possibility, and Wagner himself is said to be ready to leave the franchise after more than five years.
As Marc Stein (Substack) reports, Wagner is said to be open to offers from other teams. According to the report, there are “several teams” showing interest in the German player during free agency. The 28-year-old is said to be open to offers from other teams, even though his brother Franz Wagner remains one of the cornerstones of the Central Florida-based franchise.
Last year, Wagner signed a new one-year contract worth $5 million, even though the big man was in rehab at the time following a cruciate ligament tear he suffered in December 2024.
Prior to that, Wagner had developed into one of the NBA’s better backup big men, but the Berlin native was only able to build on that to a limited extent after his comeback in January 2026. The world champion averaged just under twelve minutes per game, posting 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. Wagner himself had also hinted on his podcast that a departure from Orlando could not be ruled out.
Wagner Limited to a Minor Role After Injury
Wagner barely played in the playoffs; it wasn’t until Game 7 against the Detroit Pistons that the German saw action under coach Jamahl Mosley, who had since been fired. The Magic nevertheless failed to advance past the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year and instead introduced Sean Sweeney as their new head coach.
Wagner arrived in Orlando in the spring of 2021, having previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Boston Celtics. The Lakers had selected the Berlin native with the 25th pick in the 2018 draft but traded him away after one year as part of the deal for Anthony Davis.
