Even without Marc Marquez, Gresini-Ducati wants to attack in the 2025 MotoGP season and, in addition to the experience of Alex Marquez, is relying on rookie Fermin Aldeguer.
After Trackhouse and Aprilia, Gresini-Ducati became the third MotoGP team to present its bike and line-up for the 2025 season this Saturday. The presentation took place in Imola, not far from the team’s base in Faenza, Italy.
Although Gresini cannot boast MotoGP superstar Marc Marquez this time, unlike last year, he does have a rookie on board in Fermin Aldeguer.
The Moto2 rider signed a contract with Ducati at the beginning of last season that guaranteed him a move up to MotoGP. It was later announced that he would become the new teammate of Alex Marquez at Gresini-Ducati in 2025.
“It’s a first for me on several levels,” says Aldeguer. ”The new design of the bike is fantastic and very aggressive. I think it reflects the spirit of this team, which has been a great institution for many years.”
Alex Marquez has been part of the team since 2023 and has made three podium appearances during that time. Last year, he celebrated an emotional double podium at the Sachsenring with his brother Marquez, who gave Gresini his best season to date with three Grand Prix wins and seven other podiums.
“I’m starting my third year with the team in a row, and I have to admit that this winter was very long,” says Marquez. ”The new colors are incredible. I hope everyone likes them. I did everything I could during the winter to be as prepared as possible, both physically and mentally.”
With his experience, Marquez will take over the team leadership role at Gresini in 2025 and is an important reference for newcomer Aldeguer. In the 2024 Moto2 season, the Spaniard celebrated three victories with Boscoscuro. He finished the World Championship in fifth place due to a lack of consistency.
Gresini with last year’s title-winning bike
As in the previous year, neither of the Gresini riders will have the current factory Ducati at their disposal, but rather last year’s bike, with which Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia fought for the 2024 world title until the last race.
Ducati has reduced the number of current factory bikes to three riders in the upcoming season. Only the two factory riders, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, and VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio, will ride the new GP25.
The GP24 of the other satellite drivers will probably be equipped with further technical improvements to increase the performance of the teams.
One of the most traditional MotoGP teams
Gresini Racing, founded in 1997 by former world champion Fausto Gresini, is one of the longest-standing teams in MotoGP. Originally successful in the smaller classes, the team moved up to the premier class in 2002 and achieved numerous podium finishes with Honda, for example with Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri.
After Fausto Gresini’s death in 2021, his family took over the management and continued to run the team. In the 2022 season, Gresini switched to Ducati bikes after several years with Aprilia and returned to the spotlight thanks to some impressive performances, including race wins by Enea Bastianini.
Today, the team relies on a combination of experienced drivers and young talents like Aldeguer to compete in MotoGP.
