Fernando Alonso is driving a Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 in Monaco—only 63 coupes of this 819 PS hybrid hypercar were ever built
Fernando Alonso is turning heads even outside of Formula 1. The Aston Martin driver was spotted in Monaco behind the wheel of a particularly exclusive Lamborghini Sián FKP 37. Only 63 coupes of this hybrid hypercar exist worldwide.
A short video clip currently circulating on social media shows a dark blue Sián on the streets of the principality. Alonso is reportedly behind the wheel. Although there isn’t a clear view of the driver, it had already become known that the Spaniard owns this vehicle. The license plate featuring Alonso’s race number 14 is considered a key clue.
The car itself is also easily identifiable. The distinctive Y-shaped LED headlights, the bronze-colored rims, and the angular body give the Sián an unmistakable appearance. The sound of the V12 can also be heard in a concrete underpass before the car continues its drive through Monaco.
Lamborghini Relys on Supercapacitors
The Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 was unveiled in 2019 and marked an important step for Lamborghini toward hybrid technology. Instead of relying on a traditional battery, the Italian manufacturer opted for a lithium-ion supercapacitor. This component can absorb and release electrical energy particularly quickly and is also lighter than a comparable battery.
The hybrid system combines the 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with an electric motor. The electric motor contributes 34 PS, while the internal combustion engine provides the majority of the power. A total of 819 PS is available. This allows the Sián to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 355 km/h.
Technically, Lamborghini also relies on sophisticated solutions in other areas. The vehicle features, among other things, a carbon-fiber monocoque, titanium intake valves, active aerodynamics, and rear-wheel steering. The interior also combines Italian craftsmanship with numerous customization options.
Only 63 coupes worldwide
However, the Sián’s exclusivity lies not solely in its technology. Lamborghini produced only 63 units of the coupe. The number is a nod to the year 1963, when Lamborghini began producing sports cars. In addition, 19 roadster versions were produced.
The “FKP 37” suffix in the name pays homage to Ferdinand Karl Piëch. The number 37 refers to his year of birth. Each of the 63 coupes was individually configured through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program, making each vehicle unique.
Even at its market launch, the Sián was exceptionally exclusive. The base price at the time was around 3.3 million euros. Since then, used models have been selling for significantly higher prices. According to reports, current resale offers are in some cases around four million pounds before taxes, which is equivalent to about 5.9 million dollars.
Another exotic car in Alonso’s collection
For Alonso, the Lamborghini is yet another extraordinary vehicle in his private collection. The two-time Formula 1 world champion is known for his passion for unique sports cars and supercars.
In addition to the Sián, his fleet reportedly includes, among others, a Pagani Zonda Roadster Diamante Verde, a Mercedes CLK GTR, and an Aston Martin DBX S. The Lamborghini thus joins a collection whose vehicles were, in some cases, produced in very limited numbers.
In Monaco, the Sián is now attracting attention not only because of its owner. The combination of 819 PS, hybrid technology with a supercapacitor, and a production run limited to 63 vehicles makes the Lamborghini one of the most exclusive cars in Alonso’s garage.
