In the last game of the regular season in the Basketball Bundesliga, the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have secured home advantage for the first play-off round. This also means that Bayern Munich will have to face “fearful opponents” Niners Chemnitz.
As the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg beat the MLP Academics Heidelberg 98:83 (46:41) in the last main round game of the season on Wednesday, they maintained fourth place – and Chemnitz remained sixth in the table. FC Bayern had already been confirmed as third.
Ludwigsburg initially had a hard time against the guests. The throws from the three-point line did not fall, so that Heidelberg could pull away to seven points. In the second quarter, however, the hosts presented themselves again in their usual strong form and were able to go into the break with a lead thanks to a 12:0 run.
In the second half, the home side extended their lead and gained important self-confidence before the play-offs. There they will meet ratiopharm Ulm.
Munich will play on Friday and Sunday at home against Chemnitz, who won all three season games against the favourites – including the cup quarter-final.
Champion and main round winner Alba Berlin will meet former series champion Brose Bamberg (8th), Telekom Baskets Bonn (2nd) will play Hamburg Towers (7th). The two title favourites Alba and Bayern can meet in the final at the earliest.
