Foden turns up: Skyblues, full of enthusiasm, win clearly in Ipswich

Manchester City has gained in confidence and points. In the clear away win in Ipswich, five players scored.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna made five changes from the side that lost 2-0 to Brighton, with City manager Pep Guardiola making four of those changes to his starting XI. Ederson started in goal in place of Ortega Moreno, who was making his first Premier League appearance since mid-December, following the Brazilian’s 2-2 draw at Brentford. Ruben Dias returned from injury to the starting lineup, which also included Gündogan and Doku. Bernardo Silva and Savinho were benched, with Aké missing through injury.

It took ManCity almost a quarter of an hour to create their first clear chance: Kovacic set up Haaland well, but the Norwegian failed in a one-on-one duel with Ipswich keeper Walton (15′). This was a chance that the striker, who had only recently extended his contract until 2034, would not normally let slip.

Ipswich hinted at their attacking potential midway through the first half: Hutchinson from a free-kick (24′) and O’Shea with a header (25′) created danger. Shortly after, however, the visitors turned the game in their favor.

Foden scores twice before half-time

Foden and Kovacic scored within three minutes: the Englishman scored from close range (27′) before setting up the Croatian, who made it 2-0 with a low shot (30′). Before half-time, it was again Foden who, after an assist from De Bruyne, scored in a similar way to the 1-0 (42′).

Doku proved particularly effective down the left on Sunday. The Belgian was involved in the three goals before half-time. Shortly after the break, he scored the 4-0 himself: a fluid movement was enough to get past two opponents and then have a clear shot (49′).

Doku also involved in Haaland’s goal – McAtee with the final point

At Ipswich, which left the guests too much space in many situations, individual mistakes with the ball also crept in again and again. One of them, an unsuccessful cross from Clarke, led to the 5-0 through Haaland, who pushed past Walton unchallenged. Once again, Doku won the ball back and provided an assist (57′).

The Skyblues then took it easy, and substitutions on both sides also helped to make the final phase much less eventful than the previous hour. But the guests added one more goal: substitute McAtee headed home a strong lob from Kovacic (69′

With the 6-0 win in Ipswich, ManCity have won three of their last four Premier League games. On Wednesday (9 p.m. CET), Guardiola’s team face Paris St. Germain in the Champions League. Ipswich will be guests at Liverpool on Saturday (4 p.m. CET).
