Dimitrov eliminates Alcaraz in Miami and meets Zverev

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz fails in the quarter-finals in Miami. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev will therefore face Grigor Dimitrov in the round of the best four

Bulgarian tennis pro Grigor Dimitrov has surprisingly defeated world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals of the Masters tournament in Miami. Dimitrov advanced to the semi-finals after a convincing 6:2, 6:4 in 1:33 hours and will meet the German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, who had previously beaten Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.

Dimitrov took Alcaraz’s first service game straight away and also decided the first and second sets and thus the match in his favor with a break. Dimitrov and Zverev last met in September last year at a tournament in Chengdu, China, where Zverez won in the semi-finals. The 26-year-old from Hamburg has won seven of the eight duels against Dimitrov to date.

In the doubles competition, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz missed out on a place in the final. The German duo were beaten in the semi-finals by Ivan Dodig from Croatia and Austin Krajicek from the USA 4:6, 7:6 and 7:10 in a match tie-break.

The women’s final has been decided, with the US player Danielle Collins and Yelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan meeting on Saturday (local time). The unseeded Collins easily defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova from Russia 6:3, 6:2. Rybakina, seeded fourth, had more trouble with Viktoria Azarenka from Belarus and won 6:4, 0:6, 7:6.
