Contract until 2028: Chukwuemeka moves to Chelsea FC

After just 14 Premier League games for Aston Villa, Carney Chukwuemeka moves on to Chelsea FC. The 18-year-old signs a six-year contract with coach Thomas Tuchel’s team

After Chelsea FC reached an agreement with Aston Villa over a transfer on Tuesday and flew Carney Chukwuemeka to the national capital for a medical, the Blues have now reached agreement with the player, signing him to a contract until 2028.

In addition to his breakthrough in the Premier League, where the England Under-19 international, born in Eisenstadt, Austria, made 12 appearances in pre-season after two short spells in 2020/21, Chukwuemeka celebrated winning the European Under-19 Championship in the summer. During the tournament, the 18-year-old son of Nigerian immigrants, who grew up in Northampton north of London after moving to England, shone in central midfield for the Young Lions and was instrumental in winning the title with a goal in injury time of the final against hosts Israel (3-1).

At Chelsea FC, Chukwuemeka has been earmarked for the first team. The Blues’ owners are looking to build a squad for the future at Stamford Bridge as well as improve the current team – the transfer of “one of the hottest talents in English football” fits both of the team’s goals, co-owners Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano said in a statement.
