Kyle Walker’s time at Manchester City has come to an end after eight years. The England international is joining Premier League newcomers Burnley.
Kyle Walker also struggled for form in the first half of Manchester City’s crisis-hit season. That’s why he moved to AC Milan on loan during the winter transfer window. However, this did not bring the desired success: Walker only started in seven Serie A games. As a result, Milan had no interest in signing the Englishman permanently, and he apparently no longer played a role in Pep Guardiola’s plans at ManCity.
FC Burnley has now seized this opportunity to make a transfer coup: the Premier League newcomers have reportedly signed Walker for a fee of up to €5.8 million. The full-back has signed a two-year contract with Burnley. At the Clarets, he will be coached by his former Tottenham teammate Scott Parker.
“When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I had to seize immediately,” said the new signing, looking back on his talks with the Clarets and looking forward to his new teammates: “Burnley had a great season last year, which was built on an incredible defensive performance, and I can’t wait to come here and bring my experience and quality to a team that looks very interesting.”
Walker won 15 titles with City
Walker leaves the blue half of Manchester with a huge collection of titles: he won the English championship six times with the Skyblues, the FA Cup twice, the EFL Cup four times, the Champions League once and, following that triumph, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
The 35-year-old made a total of 212 appearances for ManCity in the Premier League. He scored three goals and provided 18 assists. He also scored one goal and provided one assist in 54 Champions League games. Walker was even captain of Manchester City for a time.
