Wrist injury: Mavs will miss Doncic for the next few games

The Dallas Mavericks will have to do without star Luka Doncic for the next few games. The Slovenian has suffered a wrist injury.

Doncic suffered “a sprained right wrist” in the Dallas Mavericks’ 132-91 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night, as revealed by an MRI scan on Thursday. The Slovenian is due to be re-examined in a week, according to the Mavs’ statement.

In that game, Doncic played for 30 minutes, scoring 26 points, five rebounds and five assists. Since the Mavs’ top star will now be out for at least a week, he will definitely miss the games against the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, Atalanta Hawks and New York Knicks.

Dončić’s importance to the Mavericks is, of course, immense. The 25-year-old has been playing in the NBA since 2018 and immediately made a big impact. The Slovenian took the lead and not only impressed as a scorer, but also as a source of rhythm and ideas for his team. In the current season, the point guard has averaged 28.1 points in 14 games, in addition to dishing out 7.6 assists and grabbing 7.6 rebounds.

Mavs still have room for improvement

All in all, the former team of Dirk Nowitzki got off to a rather inconsistent start. The Mavericks managed to win eight of their first 15 games of the season. This currently means a shared tenth place in the Western Conference table with the Sacramento Kings. Recently, however, the Mavs had found their way onto the track quite well, winning three in a row and, among other things, making a small mark in the 121-119 win in Oklahoma. The Texans now have to continue the positive trend without Doncic.
