Manchester United have extended the contract of midfielder Bruno Fernandes (27) ahead of schedule – and apparently given the Portuguese a whopping pay rise.
As the club announced on Friday morning, Fernandes’ contract, which previously ran until 2025, has been extended by one year until June 2026. An option for a further year has also been agreed. “We have shared so many great moments over the last few years, but the best is yet to come – from me and from the team,” the Portuguese announced in the club statement.
According to British media reports, the attacking man has taken top billing for his extension. According to the “Guardian”, Fernandes rises into the top three of the internal salary ranking. Last week, The Athletic reported that United would double the playmaker’s salary.
Fernandes had moved to Manchester from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and had immediately risen to become a top performer. In the current Premier League season, he has scored nine goals in 27 games so far.
