Will Siegemund not be returning?

The former Wimbledon quarter-finalist had decided to take a break in August – with no set end date.

Even almost two months after announcing her break, there is still no sign of Laura Siegemund’s return to the WTA Tour. “For now, I’m just taking a break for a while,” Siegemund said in an interview with RTL/Sky Sport. She wants to take time to “thoroughly recover” from her physical problems.

The 38-year-old added that the past period had also been mentally draining.

The three-time Grand Slam winner in women’s doubles and mixed doubles says whether and when she returns to the professional tennis tour will depend on her physical condition and her motivation.

“I just want to see how things develop now and then actually decide a bit based on how I feel, how my body is holding up, and whether the issues have really been resolved and I’m feeling better. And then, of course, it’ll depend a bit on my enthusiasm, how much drive I feel, and we’ll see,” said the former top-30 player, who surprisingly reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals as recently as 2025.

Siegemund described the success of Hamburg-born Alexander Zverev in men’s tennis as a “huge deal” and “historic” for German tennis. The Swabian said she hoped this would inspire more children to take up tennis and lead to “a new boom”. Zverev won the French Open and the US Open this year. Furthermore, the 29-year-old is on the verge of becoming the first German man to top the world rankings since Boris Becker did so 35 years ago.
