Aguero’s triplet in Manchester City’s 6-1 rout of Huddersfield on Sunday was the Argentinian’s 9th Premier League hat-trick overall. He is the owner of three of the five PL hat-tricks recorded in 2018 but he is doesn’t own the top spot on the all-time Premier League hat-tricks list. That belongs to Alan Shearer. The Newcastle United legend has 11 of those written under his name. Aguero is tied for second place with Liverpool great Robbie Fowler. Here are the top 10.

Most Premier League hat-tricks

  1. Alan Shearer (11)
  2. Robbie Fowler (9)
  3. Sergio Aguero (9)
  4. Thierry Henry (8)
  5. Harry Kane (8)
  6. Michael Owen (8)
  7. Wayne Rooney (7)
  8. Luis Suarez (6)
  9. Shared by five players (Dimitar Berbatov, Andy Cole, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie and Ian Wright) (5)

Alan Shearer also leads the list of Premier League all-time top scorers. With 260 goals scored, he’s a full 52 goals ahead of the next player on the chart – Wayne Rooney.

Top 10 Premier League scorers

  1. Alan Shearer (260)
  2. Wayne Rooney (208)
  3. Andy Cole (187)
  4. Frank Lampard (177)
  5. Thierry Henry (175)
  6. Robbie Fowler (163)
  7. Jermain Defoe (162)

  10. Sergio Aguero (146)

As you can see, Sergio Aguero is also on this list with 146 Premier League goals. He could very well move up a few spots with a fruitful season. If it weren’t for constant injury-driven spells on the sidelines, he would’ve been a lot higher in the rankings by now.

Out of the current crop of young players, Harry Kane is the one who has the potential to catch Alan Shearer. He’s a fantastic talent and rare breed. Old-fashioned goalscorers like him appear once in a blue moon. Of course, for him to have any chance of getting close to Shearer, he’ll have to stay at Tottenham for a long time, or at least stay in England.
