Voss-Tecklenburg’s anger about kick-off times and lack of interest

On Saturday (16.05, LIVE! on kicker), the German women’s national team starts its World Cup qualifying campaign against Bulgaria. Among other things, the kick-off time really annoys national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.

“Every single one of them deserves support. The players are highly motivated and highly professional. We play for those who are there. We play for those who are watching on TV and for those who are not interested, we play as well,” said the national coach at the press conference on Friday before Saturday’s international match against Bulgaria, referring to the modest response so far coupled with the not entirely fortunate kick-off times for the DFB women.

Kick-off at the Stadion der Freundschaft in Cottbus is tomorrow, Saturday, at 4.05 pm. This is of course a bitter kick-off time for the German women, because as we all know, the Bundesliga starts at 3.30 p.m., which generates a lot of interest and naturally also draws potential spectators for the DFB team.

In Cottbus, as on Tuesday (4 pm) against Serbia in Chemnitz, up to 5,000 fans are permitted. However, the DFB expects only 2500 spectators for both matches. Voss-Tecklenburg does not like the kick-off times, both in the afternoon. “That’s not up to us. We would like to play at 6, 7, or 8 p.m.,” said the ex-national player.

In Group H of the World Cup qualifiers, Germany will play Bulgaria, Serbia, Turkey, Israel and Portugal.
