VfB farewell fixed: Mangala boosts Nottingham’s Bundesliga contingent

Orel Mangala leaves VfB Stuttgart after five years and moves to the Premier League to join Nottingham Forest.

“We have always emphasised that, in the case of corresponding offers, we take into account the economic framework conditions, the sporting evaluation and also the perspective of the player in our considerations and then decide on a possible transfer,” explained sporting director Sven Mislintat about the sale of Mangala in the official statement of VfB.

The base fee for the 24-year-old is around 13 million euros. In addition, there are up to four million euros in bonuses and a resale fee of over ten per cent. A financially good deal for the Swabians, who also have to compensate for the loss of a long-time regular player. With the exception of the 2018/19 season, when he was on loan at HSV in the 2. Liga, Mangala played at Stuttgart since 2017 and was set in the central defensive midfield, when an injury did not stop him.

Nottingham continue to help themselves in the Bundesliga

The Belgian played 28 Bundesliga games for VfB last season, but in the end Naouirou Ahamada and Nikolas Nartey were breathing down his neck and coach Pellegrino Matarazzo no longer considered him indispensable.

Now he is taking the plunge into the Premier League. Mangala is the fourth newcomer from the Bundesliga at Nottingham Forest after Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin), Moussa Niakhaté (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Omar Richards (Bayern Munich).
