“Versatile big man” Harris moves to Munich

Elias Harris is back in the BBL. The power forward is coming back to his home country after two seasons abroad, for which he played 36 national team games.

Bayern München have brought an old acquaintance back to the BBL with Elias Harris. The 33-year-old former national team player has played 196 games in Germany’s top division so far, and is now set to make further appearances in Munich. The power forward has signed a contract with the vice-champion until 2024 and will meet coach Andrea Trinchieri, with whom he already worked in Bamberg.

Experience abroad – success in the BBL

Harris was signed as a young professional by the Los Angeles Lakers, for whom he made two brief appearances in the NBA. From 2013 to 2020, Harris played for Brose Baskets Bamberg, with whom he won the German championship three times and captained until his departure. After one season with Ludwigsburg, the 2.03-metre man tried his hand abroad, playing for Zaragoza in Spain and San-en NeoPhoenix in Japan.

He played 36 games for the German national team, including the 2010 European Championship and the 2011 World Cup. He now wants to help Bayern “succeed with my experience and skill set and bring titles and championships to Munich”. Munich’s sports director Daniele Baesi is looking forward to an “experienced, versatile big man” and his “offensive contribution as well as his great physicality in the zone and his rebounding”.
