Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams has lost her first singles match in almost a year.
The 42-year-old US player lost 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 to Canadian Rebecca Marino in her first round match to open the WTA tennis tournament in Washington.The sister of Serena Williams last played a singles match in Chicago on 23 August 2021, where she lost to Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hseih.
