Uninjured and unasked: Will Gündogan still move?

Even after the second match day, Ilkay Gündogan is still waiting for his first appearance in this Premier League season with Manchester City. A late transfer cannot therefore be ruled out.

Ilkay Gündogan spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench in the 4-0 opening win over Wolves, but that fate was not to be repeated in the recent 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. However, this was not because the German was allowed to make his first league appearance of the season, but because Pep Guardiola decided not to field the experienced player at all.

Rather, it seems that the competition for positions between Nico and new signing Tijjani Reijnders in central midfield is currently simply ahead of the game.

358 competitive appearances for ManCity so far

Before the transfer window closes on September 1, the former captain of the German national team is likely to once again ponder whether he really sees his future in the sky blue part of Manchester. A late transfer cannot be ruled out one year before the end of his contract.

The 2022 championship hero only returned to the Cityzens last summer from FC Barcelona, where he had previously played between 2016 and 2023. The Gelsenkirchen native has played 358 competitive games for City (65 goals, 47 assists) to date.

Whether he will make any further appearances is likely to be decided in the near future. The next opportunity will come on Sunday, when ManCity will be looking to respond to their defeat against Spurs.
