Unaccustomed role for Altmaier privilege

Daniel Altmaier confidently accepts unaccustomed role as number one of the German Davis Cup team

Daniel Altmaier accepts the unfamiliar role as number one of the German Davis Cup team with confidence. “I don’t feel it as pressure at all, but as a privilege,” said the 25-year-old from Kempen, who moved up for the important match in Bosnia-Herzegovina after Alexander Zverev pulled out: “I earned this position with my performance and accordingly I like to accept such a situation then.”

For the team of captain Michael Kohlmann, it is all about staying in the World Group on Saturday (12.00 hrs) and Sunday (10.30 hrs/both ServusTV) in Mostar. Besides Altmaier, Yannick Hanfmann (Karlsruhe) and Maximilian Marterer (Nuremberg) are available for the singles. Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz (Coburg/Frankfurt) will compete in the doubles.

Zverev is missing due to a thigh blister from the US Open and Altmaier is looking forward to seeing the Olympic champion rejoin the team in the future. “Until then, I see it as a very good and important experience for me, worth its weight in gold,” said Altmaier: “I’m here in Mostar to get as many points as possible for us on the court. “
