Ukraine play-off match scheduled

FIFA, after consultation with UEFA, has scheduled the European play-off matches for the 2022 World Cup that are still pending due to the war.

The match between Scotland and Ukraine, which was postponed because of the Russian war of aggression, will now take place on 1 June. The winner will play Wales four days later for a ticket to the tournament in Qatar (21 November to 18 December).

The play-off matches could not take place in March as planned due to the war in Ukraine. The winner will play in the World Cup in Group B with England, Iran and the USA.

Due to the current scheduling, several matches in the Nations League were postponed at the beginning of June after discussions with a total of eight national associations involved. According to UEFA, in addition to Ukraine, Scotland and Wales, Armenia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Ireland are also affected.

“FIFA would like to thank all parties involved for their great solidarity and support in this unanimous decision,” said a statement from the world governing body.
