UEFA punishes Eiserne: No Union fans in Belgium

Leaders Union Berlin will have to do without their own fans in the last away game of the Europa League preliminary round.

Following the riots in the match at Malmö FF (1-0), UEFA banned the Köpenickers from selling guest tickets for the final group match at Belgian runners-up Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday 3 November 2022, along with a fine of €40,000.

The first ever Europa League win for Union had seen heavy pyro use – supporters of the Eisernen had set off fireworks and also thrown them onto the pitch, with firecrackers also flying from the home area. The game was interrupted for almost half an hour, and there was even talk of abandoning the match.

Not only Union will be fined by UEFA, but also Malmö will have to pay for various offences in the match, even 74,750 euros.
