Trouble over moans: Djokovic taunts spectators

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has once again reached the final of Wimbledon. On the way there: a fight against the crowd

A tough fight: Novak Djokovic not only dueled with opponent Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, but also with the crowd. The trigger was a penalty for loud moaning, as reported by “Sport1”. In the fourth game of the second set, Djokovic is said to have obstructed Sinner with his loud moaning. The Serb reacted with incomprehension.

“The incident could have changed the whole course of the match. I was very nervous and had to collect myself. It was the first time in my career,” Djokovic said about the incident in an interview after his victory. Something like that had “never happened to him before. I didn’t have the feeling that I hindered my opponent. But it was the decision and I have to accept that.”

Shortly after the penalty, he then had to contend with the crowd, who were mostly on Sinner’s side. When Djokovic was serving and the South Tyrolean had two set points in the fourth set, the former number one fluffed the first serve – and was annoyed by the reaction of some spectators.

“Howl” gesture

The Serb then interrupted his preparation for the second serve, apparently raised his thumb sarcastically and waited for things to calm down – and suddenly Sinner fluffed. He was unable to take both set points. When Djokovic managed to hold serve for 5:5, he provoked with a “howl” gesture in the direction of the spectators.

Djokovic is just one step away from being crowned Wimbledon champion once again. The seven-time champion and winner of the past four All England Championships advanced to the final for the ninth time by beating Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
