After a long hiatus, Carlos Alcaraz announces he will compete in the U.S. Open. A soccer journalist is even given the chance to break the news.
Many had given up hope, and experts in Spain had already advised a later return in the fall—but Carlos Alcaraz has decided otherwise and will indeed compete at the US Open.
On Thursday evening, the Spaniard announced his participation on August 20 via his social media channels. On X, Alcaraz simply wrote “Here We Go” alongside the U.S. flag.
It’s a slogan coined by journalist Fabrizio Romano for announcing soccer transfers. On Instagram, Alcaraz even had Romano himself announce the news. There, the seven-time Grand Slam champion also commented “Here We Go” under the Italian’s post.

Within just over 30 minutes, the Instagram post had over 180,000 likes, and even soccer players like Javi Puado of Espanyol Barcelona enthusiastically wrote “Vamooosss.”
Alcaraz at the US Open—what about Sinner?
This officially marks Alcaraz’s return to the big stage after his wrist injury, following months of waiting. The 23-year-old had been sidelined since April.
After canceling all his warm-up tournaments leading up to the US Open, his return in New York had been considered unlikely. After all, he’s jumping right back into best-of-five tennis.
But after what appeared to be good training sessions with Holger Rune this week, Alcaraz has now decided to defend his title after all.
Meanwhile, following Alcaraz’s announcement, anticipation in Italy is mounting for an official decision from Jannik Sinner regarding his participation in New York.
