It had been in the works, and now it’s official: Jovan Milosevic is leaving VfB Stuttgart to try his luck abroad. The 20-year-old is transferring to Sporting Braga.
Jovan Milosevic no longer had a future at VfB Stuttgart; that had been clear for some time—the competition in the Swabians’ attack was simply too fierce, with players like Ermedin Demirovic, Deniz Undav, and new signing Dzenan Pejcinovic vying for spots. And as a non-EU foreign player, he isn’t allowed to get playing time even with VfB II in the 3rd Division. Training, yes; playing, no—a toxic combination for a young player and his career. “He’s a young player who played in the Bundesliga in Bremen and scored goals. That’s why it will be important for him to play,” said Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß, who was well aware of Milosevic’s situation.
Because the Serbian—who joined VfB in the summer of 2023 as a top prospect for a modest 1.2 million euros from Vojvodina Novi Sad and was subsequently loaned out multiple times (St. Gallen, Partizan Belgrade, Werder Bremen), did not want to agree to another loan, it became clear fairly early on that Milosevic and VfB would part ways for good. He is now heading to Sporting Braga effective immediately, as the club announced on Wednesday.
“Jovan has continued to develop over the past few years and has proven his goal-scoring abilities at various clubs in different European leagues. The move to SC Braga gives Jovan the opportunity to take the next steps in his career in an ambitious environment,” explained VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth.
Three Goals for Werder Bremen
There was no shortage of interested clubs, partly because Milosevic had certainly made a name for himself internationally. He likely had his strongest spell at Partizan, where he shone with 19 goals and five assists in 30 games. In Bremen, he still managed three goals and one assist in 13 matches.
The 20-year-old turned down an offer from Greece’s record champion, Olympiacos Piraeus, and there were also rumors at one point of interest from Real Betis—but Spain’s La Liga will not be his next destination. Most recently, Sporting Braga and Udinese Calcio were still in the running. And it’s the Portuguese club that has now secured his services.
Even though Milosevic played only six games for VfB Stuttgart, the Swabians are still making a decent profit. That’s because VfB is pocketing a transfer fee of eight million euros for the forward.
