The basketball players of FC Bayern München have fought for an important home victory against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Euroleague. On Thursday evening, the Munich team prevailed 70:52 (30:29) against the Israeli record champions, who are also fighting for the back of the play-off places.
The Bundesliga basketball team celebrated its twelfth win in the 24th game of the season thanks to a strong defensive performance. Corey Walden was Munich’s best scorer with 13 points.
The visitors’ defence dominated the game at the start, however, and Bayern had only scored five points after seven minutes. Two three-pointers brought the hosts within 13:16 after the first quarter. In the middle of the second period, the Munich team found its rhythm and went into the dressing room with a 30:29 lead.
Strong last quarter
The Bavarians maintained this rhythm after the break, and they also defended strongly: In the first five minutes of the third quarter, they conceded only three points. Above all, Nick Weiler-Babb set the tone. The Munich team opened the fourth period with an 8-0 run, holding the visitors without a point for four minutes in the first and decisively pulling away to 57-41.
With the success against Tel Aviv, the Bavarians confirmed their recent strong form: Across competitions, they have won seven of their past eight games.
