Shoulder surgery after Club World Cup? Bellingham faces months on the sidelines

Jude Bellingham is unable to get his long-standing shoulder problems under control. After the Club World Cup in the summer, the Real Madrid player is facing surgery.

Bellingham, a key player for Spanish record champions Real Madrid, will likely have to go under the knife. According to a report by The Athletic, Los Blancos are planning surgery for the Englishman following the Club World Cup (June 15 to July 13) due to his ongoing shoulder problems. Bellingham is expected to be out for up to three months and will miss the start of the La Liga season.

The 21-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 31 league appearances so far this season, dislocated his left shoulder in November 2023 in a league match against city rivals Rayo Vallecano and has been wearing special protection ever since. According to The Athletic, Bellingham already had problems with his shoulder during his time at Borussia Dortmund from 2020 to 2023.

Real will play their final game of the season at home against Real Sociedad on Saturday (4:15 p.m.). The Royals will finish the season in second place behind arch-rivals FC Barcelona. On June 18, the Blancos will face Al-Hilal (9 p.m. CEST) in the opening game of the Club World Cup in Miami. Their other opponents in the preliminary round are CF Pachuca and RB Salzburg.
