At the tennis tournament in Rouen, France, a few unpleasant words are said about personal hygiene. One player regrets it, the other takes it with humor.
Tennis player Harriet Dart has caused a stir and criticism with an unusual complaint about her opponent. At the clay court tournament in Rouen, France, the 28-year-old from Great Britain accused her opponent Lois Boisson (21) from France of smelling bad.
The complaint, made by Dart while changing ends of the court, was picked up by a microphone and spread across social media. “Can you tell her to use deodorant? … Because she really does smell bad,” Dart complained on Tuesday as she walked past the umpire’s chair during her clear 0-6, 3-6 defeat.
After the match, she regretted her statement. “It was a spontaneous comment that I really regret,” the world number 110 wrote on Instagram after being heavily criticized on social media. “This is not how I want to behave and I take full responsibility,” Dart emphasized, promising: “I will learn from this.” She has great respect for Boisson, who is competing in her first WTA Tour event.
Boisson, who is working her way back up from 303rd place in the world rankings after an injury, reacted with humor. She posted a photo on Instagram of herself on the court with a well-known brand of deodorant in her hand, tagged the company and wrote: “Apparently we need a collaboration.”
