Scandal coach acquitted

Scandal coach Alain Schmitt is acquitted in France. The case concerns an alleged fight with his then partner Margaux Pinot.

Six months after the physical altercation with French Olympic judo champion Margaux Pinot, her coach and then partner Alain Schmitt has also been acquitted in the appeal proceedings.

Pinot had claimed that Schmitt had beaten her up.

Already in December, Schmitt (38) had been acquitted in court shortly after the incident.

Was Pinot beaten up by Schmitt?

The prosecution had appealed against this and demanded a one-year suspended sentence.

The case had aroused great public interest in France.

Pinot, ten years younger than Schmitt, who had won Olympic gold in the mixed team event in Tokyo in 2021, had testified that Schmitt, while drunk, had attacked her for no reason while she was lying in bed.

Schmitt, 2013 World Cup bronze medallist, had initially been arrested. He claimed that Pinot had attacked him and injured himself in the process.
