After narrowly avoiding relegation, Tottenham Hotspur continues to invest as if there were no tomorrow. The Spurs have been courting Savinho for weeks—and have now sealed the deal. The London club is putting a high eight-figure sum on the table for the Brazilian.
Tottenham had already tried to sign Savinho a year ago, but was rebuffed at the time. Now the Brazilian is finally joining the Spurs—for a reported 87.5 million euros. This makes him Manchester City’s record sale—previously, Julian Alvarez held that record after moving to Atlético Madrid two years ago for 75 million euros. “It took a while,” the winger is quoted as saying, “but I’m glad to be here.”
Not a Regular Starter in Manchester
Savinho joined Manchester from FC Girona in the summer of 2024 and made 72 appearances there over the past two years. However, he was often brought on as a substitute, so his dream of a starting spot had become a distant prospect. As a result, the attacking player’s desire for a change of scenery grew. Negotiations between the Premier League clubs subsequently gained momentum and have now been successfully concluded.
At Tottenham, Savinho hopes to take the next step and establish himself as a starter. Spurs coach Roberto de Zerbi, who took over the club on March 31 as the third coach in a single season, is considered a big fan of the 22-year-old, who is expected to make the Londoners’ offense more dangerous with his dribbling skills, creativity, and quality crosses. Savinho refers to de Zerbi as “one of the best coaches in the world.”
Savinho is thus another high-profile and expensive new signing that the Spurs have brought in this summer. Previously, they had signed Sandro Tonali (approx. 108 million euros, Newcastle), Mateus Fernandes (just under 100 million euros, West Ham), and Jan Paul van Hecke (approx. 60 million euros, Brighton). However, there were also departures; among others, World Cup runner-up Cristian Romero and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario left the club.
Spurs’ transfer activity underscores one thing: After two seasons in which they narrowly avoided relegation, Tottenham wants to present a completely different image in every respect.
