Return to Zagreb: Vidovic leaves Bayern Munich for good

Gabriel Vidovic is leaving FC Bayern Munich and joining Croatian top team Dinamo Zagreb. The 21-year-old already played for the capital club in 2023/24.

After nine years, talented player Gabriel Vidovic is leaving FC Bayern Munich for good and joining Dinamo Zagreb with immediate effect. The German record champions officially announced this on Monday evening. The 21-year-old had already played for the team from the Croatian capital on loan in the 2023/24 season.

“Gabriel Vidovic completed his football training at our FC Bayern Campus and then continued to develop through our loan program, taking on every challenge,” said Christoph Freund (sporting director at FC Bayern) as he bid farewell to the attacking player. “Now is the right time for the next step in his career.”

Unsuccessful loan spell in Mainz

The Augsburg-born player joined the German record champions at the age of twelve and was set to make his professional debut for them in 2022. However, the Croatian youth international failed to make his breakthrough in Munich, with only seven further appearances for the FCB to his name.

The past season was one to forget: during his loan spell at 1. FSV Mainz 05, Vidovic only managed a total of 48 minutes of playing time in two appearances before the talented youngster was recalled early in February due to a personnel shortage at FC Bayern Munich. He only made four brief appearances (22 minutes) for the record champions.

With one year remaining on his contract in the Bavarian capital, Vidovic has now decided to make a change and hopes to return to familiar surroundings. After all, the German-Croatian enjoyed his most successful season as a professional in Zagreb. In 2023/24, Vidovic scored nine goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances.

“After nine unforgettable years, it’s time to start a new chapter. Since I was twelve years old, I have had the privilege of wearing the FC Bayern Munich jersey – with pride, passion, and gratitude,” the new Zagreb player said in his farewell message on social media.
