Bale plans to join Plymouth Argyle

According to media reports, former Welsh soccer star Gareth Bale is in talks about a possible takeover of English second division relegated team Plymouth Argyle.

The five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid is reportedly part of a US investor group that has signaled interest in the club. Talks with a private equity firm are said to be at an early stage. According to a report in The Telegraph, the investor group’s goal is to take full control of the club.

According to reports, Plymouth’s current owner Simon Hallett has been looking for a new investor for around a year, with a previously negotiated sale of some shares having fallen through in the past. The club from the south-west of England was relegated from the Championship to the third tier of English football last season. Even Miron Muslic, who recently moved to FC Schalke 04, was unable to prevent relegation after taking office.

It is currently unclear what role Bale would play in the event of a successful takeover. The 35-year-old would not be the first prominent name to enter English football. His former teammate Luka Modric (Swansea City), NFL icon Tom Brady (Birmingham City), and actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (AFC Wrexham) have already done so.
