How eager Red Bull are to make a run in the 2023 Formula One season and what wins in all Grands Prix would mean for Max Verstappen’s team
The showcases are filling up fast at Red Bull Racing’s headquarters in Milton Keynes in England. For in the 2023 Formula One season alone, the team has taken home the winner’s trophy in 14 Grands Prix so far. This year, the team led by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez may even achieve a historic feat: winning all 22 races of the season.
Then the team headquarters would probably run out of space for all the trophies, but “that’s a nice problem to have,” says team boss Christian Horner. He adds: “I’m superstitious and don’t like empty display cases. That’s why we immediately ordered a new display case and filled it.” Horner says that everything else will be decided “at the end of the year”.
But whether Red Bull’s winning streak will continue until then, or even beyond? According to Horner, the only thing that is certain is: “One day we will be beaten. That is inevitable. The only question is when it will happen. And of course we want to delay that day as long as possible. “
The expectation changes with every new victory
But with each weekend, the expectation on Red Bull is rising, “that we continue to build on this run of results,” says Horner. And along the way, Formula 1 records are tumbling.
All this is almost “unbelievable” for the team boss, “when you consider that we have won all 14 Grands Prix [this year] and 24 of the recent 25 Grands Prix and that we have managed to maintain that momentum for so long.”
He says the prospect of total success in the 2023 Formula One season is a huge motivation for all the staff. “We are making history,” Horner says. “Too often you don’t get an opportunity like this.”
“We had already experienced some highs after the build-up years, from 2010 to 2013 with Sebastian in the V8 era. After that came seven difficult years, but we never lost sight of our goal.”
