ProA and ProB teams receive licence

The Barmer 2. Basketball Bundesliga announced on Wednesday evening the licence decisions for the upcoming season – BBL relegated Jobstairs Gießen 46ers got it only under conditions.

The Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga has granted all teams the licence for the 2022/2023 season in the ProA and ProB – however, some still have to fulfil conditions. In the ProA, the league will be increased: The sporty promoted Rostock Seawolves received the licence for the BBL and will be active in the German top flight in the future. In return, the Jobstairs Giessen 46ers will return to the ProA after their relegation from the BBL – however, they only received the licence for it under certain conditions.

Dresden Titans and Art Giants Düsseldorf, the promoted teams from the ProB, also received their licence only under conditions. Furthermore, the second division is completed by the Artland Dragons and the WWU Basekts Münster, who received wild cards from the German Basketball Federation.

The ProB will also be increased: The four sporting regional league champions BBG Herford, Roth Energie Gießen Pointers, BG Topstar Leitershofen/Stadtbergen and the Rasta Vechta farm team are now also finally determined as promoted teams. In addition to the relegated Etv Basketball and scanplus baskets Elchingen, Depant Gießen 46ers Rackelos will no longer be playing in the ProB. After the relegation of the first team from the BBL, the Jobstairs relinquished the starting place of the Rackelos in the ProB for both economic and sporting reasons.
