Paris Saint-Germain bans cola and iced tea from team meals

Paris Saint-Germain is trying to turn every screw in order to bring the players to the top level. Now, some of the players’ cherished habits are being tackled.

Paris Saint-Germain is banning sugary drinks such as Coca-Cola and Iced Tea from team lunches, according to a report in Le Parisien newspaper. Since July, the club has had a full-time nutritionist, a former Spanish footballer trained in this regard, “Le Parisien” reported on Wednesday. One of his first decisions had been to eliminate drinks that were not compatible with top-level sport.

The fact that this was not done earlier may have something to do with the fact that Coca-Cola is the club’s official partner. The contract was extended last year until 2024, the newspaper wrote.

“I don’t think anything of it there. Cola is exactly the wrong thing. What bothers me most about Coke is not that it only has single sugar and only gives a short push, but the phosphoric acid that is in it,” Warnecke explained. “That’s exactly what an athlete doesn’t need. That demineralises again when the athlete is at the limit anyway. “

As is customary in quite a few clubs, he said, PSG players will in future be required to eat two meals together during the training phase, breakfast and lunch.
