Offer Made? Giannis Trade to Boston Becomes More Likely

Where is Giannis Antetokounmpo headed? While the Miami Heat were long considered the favorites for a potential trade, the Boston Celtics are now reportedly getting serious and are said to have already made an offer.

Rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future continue to gain momentum. Although a trade involving the superstar remains uncertain, there is intense discussion within the league about possible destinations. A two-way race between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics is becoming increasingly apparent.

For a long time, Miami was considered the clear favorite to sign the two-time MVP. Now, NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that the Boston Celtics are viewed as serious competition within league circles and could significantly complicate Miami’s plans.

These reports also align with information from Marc Stein. He writes that Boston has become an increasingly likely destination for the Greek star in recent weeks, even though the Celtics haven’t gone all-in yet.

An important factor in a potential trade could be the connection between Giannis and Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Both work with skills coach Drew Hanlen, and Antetokounmpo is reportedly open to considering Boston as a potential destination.

At the same time, there is persistent speculation about the Celtics’ trade flexibility. Although Boston is reportedly not currently engaged in concrete talks regarding Jaylen Brown, a potential blockbuster deal is not entirely ruled out, according to reports.

A trade for Antetokounmpo would be extremely complicated. The Greek star is set to earn $58.5 million next season and also holds a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027–28 season.

However, this apparently isn’t deterring the Celtics: According to Bill Simmons, the franchise even submitted an official trade offer for Giannis last week. The Athletic adds that if Antetokounmpo were to move to Boston, he would sign a long-term contract there.

Miami would likely have to sacrifice several key players

If the Heat get serious in the race for Giannis, the price tag is likely to be enormous. According to Fischer, it is widely assumed throughout the league that Miami would have to offer a package including Tyler Herro, Kel’El Ware, and Jaime Jaquez Jr., as well as several draft picks.

Herro, in particular, has been considered a key component of potential superstar trades for years. Ware has made significant progress in his second NBA season, and Jaquez Jr. has recently even entered the conversation for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
