Multimillion investment – British eSports Federation builds performance centre

The British Esports Association (BEA) is opening an eSports performance centre for talent development in Sunderland in summer 2022.

It’s a multi-million pound project that the British eSports Association is planning. Adjacent to the home of AFC Sunderland, the Stadium of Light, the governing body of British eSports has acquired a former retail complex.

The site will be home to the National Esports Performance Campus announced today – a national eSports performance centre – by summer 2022.

The state-of-the-art base will not only be the focal point of national efforts within the gaming industry and eSports, but will also set global standards. The goal is nothing less than to produce the greatest eSports talents.

Investment in the future of eSports

In order to achieve this, the performance centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art training facilities and equipment. Both training and educational opportunities for eSports players and industry-related fields are being planned, he said.

Specially equipped eSports classrooms, training facilities, streaming sets and even its own arena will be available at the future base. It will also be used as a venue for eSports events, community tournaments, summer camps and as a location for the UK eSports team.

“Sunderland is an extremely ambitious and forward-thinking city, which makes it a great fit for BEA and eSports. […] The campus will be an inspiring place. A place where players and coaches can work, learn and develop. This is a much-needed facility,” said Chester King, chief executive of the British eSport Federation.

So while the eSport-Bund Deutschland (ESBD) is still struggling with Germany’s political representatives to get eSports recognised as a non-profit organisation, the UK is taking big steps towards the future. Because professional sport needs professional structures funded by the federal government. Those involved on the island seem to have more than understood this already.
