Marterer and Hanfmann in the main draw at the French Open

The number of German tennis pros at the French Open has grown once again. Three Germans made it through qualifying to reach the main draw.

Maximilian Marterer and Yannick Hanfmann have qualified for the main draw at the French Open. This means that a total of nine German tennis pros will be competing in the second Grand Slam tournament of the season. The classic clay court tournament in Paris begins this Sunday.

The 29-year-old Marterer won the final round of qualifying against Federico Arnaboldi of Italy 6-4, 6-1. Marterer had only played three matches this year due to injuries. The 33-year-old Hanfmann prevailed in the decisive match against France’s Titouan Droguet 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Earlier, Hamburg’s Tamara Korpatsch had already fought her way through qualifying to reach the main draw. This means that five men and four women will now be competing at the Stade Roland Garros.
