The Los Angeles Lakers have secured their superstar for the long term: Luka Doncic has signed a new contract, according to multiple US media reports. All this with the prospect of a historic supermax deal.
Luka Doncic will remain with the Los Angeles Lakers for the coming years. According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, the Slovenian superstar has signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension. The new agreement includes a player option for 2028, at which point Doncic will be eligible for a supermax contract worth $417 million.
On top of that, this eliminates the possibility of him becoming a free agent in 2026/27.
Strong numbers
In his first 28 games in a Lakers jersey, he averaged an impressive 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists, shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from the three-point line.
With the new contract, the Lakers are sending a clear message: Doncic is to remain the face of the franchise and lead the team into a new era of titles. The next chance for the big win will come in 2026 at the latest – with a top earner at the helm.
