Like jumping into a pool: the jerseys drag Aston Villa down

Sportingly, things are up and down at Aston Villa. The big issue at the moment, however, are the jerseys, which visibly bother the men and which the women don’t even want to put on

The players of Aston Villa want to swap shirts. But not with their opponents, but on principle. Supplier “Castore” has apparently made a mistake with the shirts of the season that has just begun.

Both home and away jerseys soak through too quickly when it rains or the professionals start to sweat. Then the work clothes become heavy and a hindrance. “After just ten minutes, the players look like they’ve jumped into a pool,” the Telegraph quotes a source close to the club as saying. The newspaper also reports that a split between club and kit supplier is imminent. In any case, a solution to the problem is to be found as soon as possible.

The women have so far played in training jerseys

The Villans men have already complained to the club management. The women, who have not yet played in the shirts in question, do not even want to put them on. “For obvious reasons”, as football commentator Jacqui Oatley “explains” in the Daily Mail. So far, in preparation matches, the players had been in less tight-fitting training jerseys.

The women’s league season begins on 1 October, with Villa opening against runners-up Manchester United on Sunday. With twelve points after six games, the men have made a good start in the Premier League – in the Europa Conference League, however, they lost 3-2 to Legia Warsaw in their opener, and in the League Cup they lost to Everton straight away. The players certainly looked unhappy in each case – also with the extra weight they had to carry around.
