Jannik Sinner gets off with a three-month suspension in his doping case. An opinionated tennis pro comments on the settlement with Wada in no uncertain terms.
Tennis pro Nick Kyrgios has criticized the outcome of the doping case involving Jannik Sinner and the three-month suspension for the world number one in no uncertain terms. “A sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist,” the Australian wrote on the platform X. The 29-year-old had already spoken out critically about the case several times and denounced preferential treatment of the Italian tennis star.
Sinner agreed with the World Anti-Doping Agency Wada to be suspended for three months after his two positive doping tests from March 2024. He is not allowed to play in any tournaments until May 4th – the ban ends just in time before the French Open, which begins on May 25th in Paris.
The world’s currently best tennis player states that the banned substance clostebol entered his body through the hands of a caregiver during a massage. The tennis agency Itia, which was responsible, saw no intentional fault and no negligence and refrained from imposing a ban. WADA took action against this – but, with the agreement now reached with Sinner, it has withdrawn its objection before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
