Boxer Maxi Klötzer missed out on a place in the final at the European Championships in Sofia but still won bronze. On Wednesday, the 26-year-old from Chemnitz lost her semi-final in the under-51-kilogramme weight class to Spain’s Laura Fuertes on points, 2–3. Both losers of the semi-finals receive a bronze medal.
Kevin Lebowski has his next chance to reach the final in Bulgaria’s capital this afternoon (3.15 pm) in the under-90-kilogramme category against Turkey’s Emrah Yasar. With these two guaranteed medals for the German Boxing Federation (DBV), the target set by the new national coach, Humberto Horta Dominguez – who had aimed for “two medals” in an interview with MDR – has already been achieved.
