Jose Mourinho went inside his crystal ball and made his 2018 World Cup group stage predictions. Let’s check “The Special One’s” opinion.
“I’m not ready, because it’s very difficult.”
Those were Mourinho’s first words. Then, he quickly elaborated:
“…I want my players to win, but I also want my players to go on a holiday,”,
and went on to make his predictions.
He chose Uruguay to finish atop Group A, stating their experience, mentality and top players as the determining factors. Somewhat surprisingly, he picked Spain ahead of Portugal in Group B, leaving some food for thoughts by saying:
“…I will show later that I’m totally Portuguese.”
According to Manchester United’s manager, France will have no problem finishing first in Group C, but he went with a surprise at second.
“Come on, Australia, let’s finish second.” – were his exact words.
“I think the little fellow will finish first.” – implying to Lionel Messi, of course, when placing Argentina as the winner of Group D, before picking Nigeria second.
After selecting Brazil as the obvious choice to top Group E, he decided to give his favorite player some rest.
“I need Matic to go on a holiday, so Switzerland finish second. I’m sorry Nemanja, but you need a holiday.”
Jose chose England over Belgium as the winner of Group G, showing his support by saying:
Finally, he went with Senegal as the winner of the balanced Group H and Poland as the second placed team.
Jose Mourinho is one of the most contradicting and controversial figures in football. However, when it comes to football, he knows his business. Time will tell whether his crystal ball works.
