Eric Dier’s contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer. It now looks as if he will be leaving and the defender will move to France on a free transfer.
Eric Dier joined Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024 and has since made 45 appearances for Bayern (scoring two goals). Due to injuries in defense, including that of Dayot Upamecano, the Englishman’s services have been in high demand again recently. The 31-year-old has played every Bundesliga game since matchday 23.
Most recently, he received praise from sporting director Max Eberl, among others, which could well be interpreted as a positive sign that his contract will be extended. However, this is unlikely to happen, at least according to French newspaper L’Equipe. According to the report, the English defender is set to join AS Monaco on a free transfer.
The Monegasques are currently in fourth place in Ligue 1. It is therefore not yet clear whether AS will play in the Champions League next season. This does not appear to be a decisive factor for Dier, as the 31-year-old has apparently decided to move to Ligue 1 either way.
Plenty of experience under his belt
This would be Dier’s first club in France. After spells at Sporting Lisbon and Everton, he moved to Tottenham in London in 2014. He played 274 Premier League games for Spurs until January 2024, before moving to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The defensive player has played a total of 329 games for the top English club, scoring twelve goals.
Should the transfer go through – neither club has commented on it yet – Monaco can look forward to an experienced player who has also played 49 international games for England (scoring three goals).
