Fabio Di Giannantonio successfully operated on his collarbone – Only one of the three injured MotoGP riders will be able to take part in the test at Buriram
The upcoming MotoGP test in Buriram will take place without world champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46-Ducati). The two crash victims have had successful operations, but will miss the final test before the start of the 2025 MotoGP season. Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse-Aprilia) is expected to be back in action.
The VR46 team has confirmed that Fabio Di Giannantonio had successful surgery on his left collarbone on Sunday. Doctor Alessandro Castagna performed the procedure in Rome.
The plan is for “Diggia” to recover in the following weeks so that he can race again at the season opener in Thailand. However, the Italian’s pre-season preparation has been far from perfect.
Di Giannantonio already missed the post-season test in Barcelona because he was recovering from an operation on his left shoulder. The VR46 rider returned for the pre-season test in Sepang and had a promising first day of testing with the 2025 Ducati.
After a training start, “Diggia” attempted a wheelie, but suddenly lost control when the front wheel touched down and broke his left collarbone in a crash. VR46 team manager Alessio “Uccio” Salucci provided a statement on the incident (see news).
Important signal for Aprilia: Raul Fernandez wants to take part in the test
Raul Fernandez went under the knife in Barcelona on Thursday. The Trackhouse rider crashed almost simultaneously with fellow Aprilia rider Jorge Martin at the Sepang test. Fernandez was operated on his hand by Doctor Xavier Mir, who later also treated Jorge Martin.
On Sunday, Fernandez flew to Bangkok and took off for Buriram on Monday morning. Fernandez’s appearance is of great importance to Aprilia because the Spaniard is the rider with the most experience on the bike.
Due to the retirements of the two Spaniards, the development of the RS-GP for this year was in the hands of Aprilia newcomer Marco Bezzecchi and rookie Ai Ogura.
